ASNO-SNO Joint Session 2023 Report
By Mitsutoshi Nakada, ASNO Scientific Committee Chair
The SNO annual meeting was held in Vancouver from November 15 to 19, 2023. The ASNO-SNO joint session was successfully held during the morning session on November 17.
Here is agenda.
Theme: Updated Imaging Phenotypes of CNS Tumors in the Molecular and Genetic Era
1) Pediatric Brain Tumors: Imaging Phenotypes and Pitfalls to Avoid
Melissa M. Chen – The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center & Rajan Jain – NYU Langone Health (right)
2) IDH Mutated Gliomas: Story of T2-Flair Mismatch Sign
Rajan Jain – NYU Langone Health
3) IDH Wildtype Gliomas: Imaging Phenotypes and Correlates of Molecular Markers
Sung Soo Ahn – Department of Radiology, Yonsei University College of Medicine, Korea
3) Management Decision Making Based on Pre-Operative Imaging Phenotype
Manabu Kinoshita – Department of Neurosurgery, Asahikawa Medical University, Japan
Prof. Rajan Jain, as session chair, provided an introduction and overview of this session. Prof. Chen presented characteristics of MRI findings of pediatric brain tumors, including medulloblastoma, PLENTY (Polymorphous low-grade neuroepithelial tumor of the young), diffuse midline glioma, and ETMR (Embryonal tumor with multilayered rosettes). Prof. Jain focused on the finding of T2-FLAIR mismatch on MRI. In children, T2-FLAIR mismatch does not necessarily indicate astrocytoma. Instead, it may represent a rare tumor lineage. Prof. Ahn presented differences in MRI imaging between mutant and wild-type IDH. Prof. Kinoshita discussed preoperative decision-making based on MRI from a neurosurgeon’s perspective. The session provided valuable insights for the audience. We hope to host another great joint SNO session from November 22 to 26, 2024, in Houston, TX .
